THE PREDICTION

Petra Kvitova’s emotional round of 16 win seemed to be as much about her return to the court where she made her comeback as much as the self-belief she is developing at Roland-Garros, as other seeds in the women’s draw continue to fall. She takes on a powerful competitor in Laura Siegemund, who took out 13th seed Petra Martic in impressive fashion back in the third round, but Kvitova is a step up in quality. Kvitova and Siegemund will meet for the second time in their career but a deft straight-sets victory for the Czech back in 2015 is no help as evidence for this match as the German has come on in leaps and bounds in recent times. Kvitova could lose the first set of her campaign here to Siegemund, but she should come through to reach the semi-finals.
