THE PREDICTION

Karen Khachanov was less than convincing on Thursday evening against the Belgian wildcard Zizou Bergs, who lit up the Antwerp crowd with a sparkling performance that made mockery of his ranking at 528th in the world. Ultimately, though, world number 17 Khachanov worked his way through to a victory but he will have to up his game against Dan Evans here, who seems to have put some bad form behind him. A convincing win over Frances Tiafoe in the round of 16 pits the British number one up against Khachanov for a second time this year, with Evans winning that previous match at the Rotterdam Open before the suspension of the season. Evans is a student of the game and will no doubt have taken lessons from his next opponent’s match with 21-year-old Bergs, and the world number 35 knows he has the game to upset a baseline specialist like Khachanov. Their match in Rotterdam went to three sets, and it could well do so here with Evans capable of reaching the semi-finals here.
