Taylor Fritz vs Denis Shapovalov Prediction

Despite coming through the second round in straight sets vs Lorenzo Sonego, Taylor Fritz was not entirely convincing and improvement is required this time around. Whilst the serve of Fritz remains crucial, his all-round game was lacking, winning just one of seven break points. That lack of a clinical edge allowed each set to run deep with a tie-breaker needed in the first.

Despite this, Fritz’s quality cannot be disputed and he is only likely to get better moving forward and he gets more minutes out on the court into his body. His serve and groundstroke power ensures that breaking his serve remains a mammoth task for any opponent on the hard court, not least Denis Shapovalov, especially as the Canadian must be fighting fatigue following the last round.

It was a gruelling three-set win for Shapovalov last time out with the latter two sets being decided via tie-break. The turnover is quick and that doesn’t help him with Fritz expected to come out of the traps very fast. In the end, back USA to come out on top here over Canada and to do so in straight sets.
