Tagir Ulanbekov vs Clayton Carpenter (Flyweight)

Tagir Ulanbekov: Former Sambo champion looking to kick on in flyweight division

Tagir Ulanbekov (15-2) returns to the Octagon for his first fight since December 2023. The Dagestani fighter was due to fight in June last year but weighed in at 129.5lbs – four and a half pounds over the 125lbs weight class – and his bout with Joshua Van was cancelled. He now returns and it will be interesting to see what number he weighs in at. He has settled into the UFC nicely having won four of his five fights so far and his only loss against Tim Elliott came by unanimous decision – just like the only other loss on his record. The 33-year-old has won his last two fights; both of which came by submission against Nate Maness and most recently against Cody Durden and he will look to make it three in a row here.

Clayton Carpenter: Unbeaten Contender puts 100% record on the line

Clayton Carpenter (8-0) came through Dana White’s Contender Series in August 2022 and has since maintained his 100% winning record in MMA. He beat Edgar Chairez by unanimous decision in the Contender Series and has gone on to win both his bouts in the UFC by submission (rear-naked choke). He now looks to take it up a notch and make it nine wins from nine and the talented American flyweight is handed a tough assignment to test his credentials.

Tagir Ulanbekov vs Clayton Carpenter Prediction

We have a fascinating bout first up as Tagir Ulanbekov faces Clayton Carpenter in the UFC’s flyweight division.

Carpenter is unbeaten but has not quite fought the quality that would be befitting of a 100% record so he is under some pressure to prove himself here.

Ulanbekov has been really impressive prior and since joining the UFC. He has the edge in experience and we favour him to get the win by decision or submission and take his streak to three in the Octagon.

Prediction: Tagir Ulanbekov to win by decision or submission
