Sydney Thunder Preview: Billings ruthless after run-out mistake

Overseas player Sam Billings should’ve been on his way back to the dugout on just 16 batting against Melbourne Stars after he was run-out at the non-strikers end. However, the Stars didn’t appeal and Billings made them pay, going on to top-score with 72 as Sydney Thunder recorded 182/8 batting first.

David Warner’s side then did an excellent job defending that total, keeping their opponents on a tight leash and taking wickets at key times. In the end, they restricted Melbourne Stars to 164/8 and won by 18 runs. But the win came at a cost, with Jason Sangha picking up a bicep injury that looks set to possibly rule him out moving forward.

Melbourne Renegades Preview: Long wait for Sutherland’s side

The frustration from a Melbourne Renegades perspective is likely to be that it’s been such a long period of time since they’ve been in action after having recorded back-to-back triumphs. Wins over Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers were impressive ones, but Will Sutherland’s men haven’t had the opportunity to follow those results up.

This game represents the Renegades’ first taste of BBL 14 cricket since December 23rd and the fear of them lacking match sharpness is understandable if you’re a Gades supporters especially when considering that the Thunder played only two days ago.

Sydney Thunder Betting Analysis

The Sydney Thunder pace bowlers are enjoying plenty of success in BBL 14, whether it be Wes Agar or Lockie Ferguson. The latter is currently averaging two wickets per game having taken six scalps so far, whilst Agar is coming off the back of 3-25 against Melbourne Stars. With that in mind, a stake on both to finish as the Thunder’s top bowler here has to be favoured.

Melbourne Renegades Betting Analysis

Melbourne Renegades hoped that Jacob Bethell would prove as dynamic for them as he looked for England in his maidan Test series in New Zealand and so far, the youngster hasn’t let his BBL side down. Bethell top-scored for the Renegades with 30 in a fairly low-scoring game against Perth and looked perfectly at home in Australian conditions. Back Bethell to follow that up with another score of 20+ runs via the ‘Batter Milestones’ market.

Sydney Thunder vs Melbourne Renegades Expert Prediction

You have to feel that it benefits Sydney Thunder playing at home and only two days after their win over the Stars. The hosts could well end up catching Melbourne Renegades cold as they try to regain the momentum that they had prior to the Christmas break. Warner’s side are canny operators and have proven their mettle both setting and chasing a target. Whilst the pendulum could swing both ways over the course of this contest, back the Thunder to come through.
