Sydney Sixers Preview: Second Hobart defeat forces backdoor route

For the second time this campaign Sydney Sixers travelled to Tasmania, this time for the qualifier match. For the second time they were bowling first and for the second time, the Sixers wound up on the losing side. Chasing 174 to win, Moises Henriques’ men fell short, finishing on 161/5 from their allocated 20 overs.

The last scheduled Sydney Smash at the MCG was curtailed early on through rain, with the Thunder 36/1 batting first at the time. However, they were beaten by David Warner’s side at Engie Stadium earlier on in the season.

Sydney Thunder Preview: Thunder strikes out Stars

Sydney Thunder’s BBL 14 title credentials faced their toughest test in the knockout as they took on the red-hot Melbourne Stars who have won each of their last five Big Bash games prior to the knockout. Unfortunately for them though, they ran into a Thunder team whose bowlers were outstanding in stifling the opponent.

Defending 175 was always going to require a quality all-round performance with the ball and Sydney Thunder provided, it, Nathan McAndrew leading the way with a fiver wicket-haul to win it by 12 runs and send the Thunder across town to face the Sixers.

Sydney Sixers Betting Analysis

After having made 61 in the qualifier, experienced pro Jordan Silk could have a big role to play again here for the Sixers down the order. Silk has the level head to hold together an innings or accelerate if required and the ‘Batter Milestones market appeals when it comes to Silk, who can be backed to register 30+ runs here.

Sydney Thunder Betting Analysis

Whilst David Warner has taken most of the headlines for Sydney Thunder, their knockout victory was all about Nathan McAndrew, who spearheaded a brilliant collective bowling performance from the Thunder. No doubt full of confidence after taking five wickets against the Stars and momentum firmly behind him, back McAndrew to gain another 1.5 match wickets in this game.

Sydney Sixers vs Sydney Thunder Expert Prediction

Sydney Sixers being at home and regulars when it comes to knockout matches like this in the BBL makes them narrow favourites. But this Sydney Thunder side have had an answer to every question thrown at them so far this season. You can’t help but feel the stars are written for Warner to guide the Thunder to the BBL 14 final in his first leadership role since suspension. Therefore, back Sydney Thunder to shock the Sixers.
