Sydney Roosters Team News: Rebuilt Roosters ready to go

Sydney Roosters get their 2025 campaign underway after going through a significant rebuild in the off-season. They saw a number of important players depart while they also start the season with a concerning number of injuries as Sam Walker, Egan Butcher, Brandon Smith and Billy Smith are all ruled out. That means a number of new faces will feature and there is a distinct lack of experience in the ranks also.

Michael Maguire gets his tenure at Brisbane Broncos started and the coach will have been pleased with his side’s preparations heading into the new campaign. The disciplinarian has his men firmly focused on making a strong start and playing with real intensity, and it will be interesting to see how that translates into their first competitive match under him.

Sydney Roosters vs Brisbane Broncos Prediction

This is the kind of match that many would have expected to see in Las Vegas as they did in 2024 but both may welcome the more low-key start as they have undergone transitions over the summer.

The Roosters have been forced into changes after losing some key players and they are somewhat decimated by injuries at the start of the season.

It is not quite the same for the Broncos but they have a new man at the helm and Michael Maguire is demanding a completely different mindset this year.

The Roosters could be in for a rude awakening early on in this NRL season given their absentees and this is a tough opener. We think the Broncos get the win and potentially blow them away in this opening match.
