Stuttgart Preview: Steady Stuttgart

Over the summer, Stuttgart sold some key players such as Waldemar Anton, Hiroki Ito and Serhou Guirassy after they had propelled themselves to runners’ up in the Bundesliga just a year after they narrowly avoided relegation in the relegation playoff place.

The home team have naturally regressed a touch but have started steadily so far this season. They come into this one on the back of an entertaining 3-2 defeat of Union Berlin the other day. That means they have now suffered just one defeat in their last five matches.

Young Boys Preview: Struggles for YB

After winning the Swiss Super League so far this season, Young Boys have massively struggled in the opening few months of this campaign. The Swiss champions sit ninth in the 12-team Swiss Super League table this year after 17 matches with Joel Magnin in caretaker charge.

He has been the caretaker boss since Patrick Rahmen’s early-October sacking but things haven’t really improved. They are rock-bottom of the 36-team table ahead of this match day with five defeats from five, two goals scored and 17 conceded so far this season.

Stuttgart Team News: Key absentees

In the summer, Ameen Al Dakhil was brought in to replace departing defenders but he remains sidelined for this one alongside Dan-Axel Zagadou. Attacking arrival El Bilal Toure is also out injured alongside key attackers Jamie Leweling and Deniz Undav.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Neubel; Stenzel, Rouault, Chabot, Mittelstadt; Karazor, Stiller; Vagnoman, Millot, Fuhrich; Demirovic

Unavailable: Al Dakhil (Illness), Zagadou (Injured), Raimund (Injured), Leweling (Injured), Undav (Injured), Toure (Injured)

Young Boys Team News: Several absentees

Young Boys are dealing with several long-term absentees for this week’s trip to Stuttgart on Wednesday such as Facinet Conte and Saidy Janko. Key Gambia international attacker Ebrima Colley is also now missing for the Swiss champions.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Von Ballmoos; Blum, Camara, Lauper, Hadjam; Ugrinic, Niasse, Lakomy; Imeri, Ganvoula, Monteiro

Stuttgart vs Young Boys Prediction

Stuttgart head into the sixth match day of the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League campaign sitting just a couple of points outside of the top 24 with their only win in their five matches being a 1-0 win against Juventus in Turin. They will be expected to make it a second win, though, especially with their home advantage up against a Young Boys side that were always expected to struggle but have perhaps struggled even more than those expectations.
