Stephen Bunting can probably consider himself the unluckiest Premier League participant this year. After giving himself a glimmer of hope of a playoff place by going all the way in Berlin a couple of weeks ago, the Bullet ran into a 118 average from Luke Humphries last week. it certainly wasn't the first time that Bunting has faced an inspired opponent in this year's Premier League.

In Michael van Gerwen though, he faces an opponent who has not been at his best lately. Although a recent neck injury appears to be behind him, the Dutchman didn't particularly excel in Manchester last week, losing out in the semi-finals, while he produced some inconsistent darts in the pair of Players Championship events this week.

The bookies are marginally favouring Van Gerwen here in front of his home crowd, although he has lost at the first hurdle in this venue in each of the last two years. In-form Bunting should make this more than interesting, with a close contest expected.
