Stephen Bunting vs Luke Littler Prediction
Stephen Bunting had too much class for a resurgent Peter Wright in the quarter-finals on New Year’s Day, winning 5-2 to book his place in the last four of the PDC World Darts Championship for the second time in his career.
‘The Bullet’ has now reached a career-high of number five in the world and was visibly emotional in the aftermath of his victory, but he knows he has an almighty job on his hands if he is to make it through to the final and give himself the chance to join a select group of players who have won world titles in both the BDO and PDC.
Despite seemingly not being at his absolute best in this event, tournament favourite Luke Littler is now just one step away from reaching back-to-back world titles. The 17-year-old disposed of management stablemate Nathan Aspinall in the quarter-finals, crashing in 15 180s in his 5-2 victory and averaging 101.54 in the process.
Maximum-hitting has certainly not been an issue for Littler, who leads the tournament in that respect, but he has occasionally thrown in a poor leg and his checkout percentage over the course of the tournament is certainly not as high as it could be. Bunting will have to hope that those same vulnerabilities rear their head in this semi-final, as otherwise you can only see one winner.
Given how strong his set-up scoring is, Littler doesn’t often give himself attempts at high outshots, whereas Bunting has hit a ton-plus checkout in all four of his matches so far. Therefore, we’re favouring the Bullet to hit the highest checkout in the match.
