Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Jan-Lennard Struff prediction
Stefanos Tsitsipas locks horns with Jan-Lennard Struff in a second round battle of the former finalists in Madrid.
The Greek hasn’t had the success he has grown accustomed to in the early part of the clay swing with his defence of the Monte Carlo title ending in the quarter-finals before his Barcelona bid was thwarted at the same stage.
The former French Open runner-up has a topsy-turvy record against Jan-Lennard Struff too, with the Greek leading 5-4 but trailing 2-1 on the dirt.
One of those defeats came in the last eight in Madrid two years ago as JLS made his way to the final where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz.
Tsitsipas was surprisingly beaten in the second round here last year, so he will want to improve on that and earn a haul of ranking points to try and push back towards the top ten.
Struff will have nothing to lose having ended a painful eight-match losing run in the first round as he led 7-5 2-6 4-1 before Botic van de Zandschulp retired.
The German has really struggled to find any sort of form this year and although this is a tournament the world number 79 has fond memories in, it’d be a major surprise if he repeated his 2023 heroics over Tsitsipas this time around.
