Stan Wawrinka vs Alejandro Davidovich Fokina prediction

Stan Wawrinka made a fast start in the first round of the Monte-Carlo Masters, winning the first set 6-1 against Alejandro Tabilo but he couldn’t maintain that level and went on to lose in three sets.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina will be a tough opponent for the Swiss in the first round at Barcelona. The Spaniard made a brilliant start to his European clay court season, as he reached the semi-final of the Monte-Carlo before losing a tight match against compatriot Carlos Alcaraz.

Davidovich Fokina got past seeds Ben Shelton and Jack Draper on his way to making the last four, playing some really inspired tennis throughout and managing to battle his way through.

Wawrinka does lead the head-to-head 1-0, having won in Stockholm last year on hard court, but this will be a far different test on clay against in-form Davidovich Fokina. The three-time Grand Slam champion does have the firepower to cause Davidovich Fokina some problems, but we think the world number 42 will still outlast him and advance.
