St Pauli Preview: Adapting to the top-flight
After losing Fabian Hurzeler to Brighton and Hove Albion over the summer, former Royale Union Saint-Gilloise boss Alexander Blessin has replaced him and, after a slow-ish start to the campaign, St Pauli have shown a real ability to compete at the highest level of German football.
They were most recently beaten 2-0 by Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena but the hosts limited the defending champions to just two shots on target in that game. However, since that aforementioned slow start, they have won three and drawn one of their last nine matches.
Werder Bremen Preview: Improving Werder
Werder Bremen begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting firmly in the middle-of-the-table in the Bundesliga with just one defeat in their last six matches across all competitions as they continue to build and evolve under the management of Ole Werner into his fourth season.
The visitors come into this one on the back of a slender but fairly comfortable, uneventful 1-0 defeat of bottom-of-the-table Bochum by a goal to nil at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion in their most recent outing last weekend thanks to a 56th minute winning goal scored by Jens Stage.
St Pauli Team News: Guilavogui suspension
Summer signing Morgan Guilavogui has been in good form of late but is now missing through suspension for the hosts, joining several injured players on the sidelines such as Karol Mets, Connor Metcalfe and Scott Banks.
Predicted XI (3-4-3): Vasilj; Wahl, Smith, Nemeth; Saliakas, Irvine, Boukhalfa, Treu; Afolayan, Eggestein, Sinani

St Pauli vs Werder Bremen Prediction
St Pauli have shown an ability to hit teams on the counter-attack this season, which has seen their style evolve from last season after they were so possession-based under Hurzeler. The return of former Bolton Wanderers attacker Dapo Afolayan has massively aided that ability. They now face a Werder side that are a little more controlled than that and that might actually help the hosts so a double chance bet in favour of St Pauli looks good value for this one.
St Pauli vs Werder Bremen Tip: Double chance – St Pauli to win or draw
