St. Helens Team News: Saints virtually at full strength for season opener
St Helens boss Paul Wellens has brought back all his senior players after leaving some of them out of their Challenge Cup match last weekend but the one notable absentee is Konrad Hurrell who has been left out. Youngsters Noah Stephens and Harry Robertson keep their places while newcomer Kyle Feldt could well make his Super League debut for the club after joining.
Squad: Jack Welsby, Kyle Feldt, Mark Percival, Jon Bennison, Tristan Sailor, Jonny Lomax, Alex Walmsley, Daryl Clark, Matty Lees, Curtis Sironen, Joe Batchelor, Morgan Knowles, Moses Mbye, James Bell, Matt Whitley, Aganatius Paasi, Jake Wingfield, George Delaney, Lewis Murphy, Noah Stephens, Harry Robertson
Salford Red Devils Team News: Reserve team selected for opening match
Salford Red Devils have somewhat controversially named a combination between reserve and youth players for this opening match as they are still restricted by the salary cap limitations placed on them due to financial difficulties. The takeover of the club has yet to be ratified so Paul Rowley has not called up any of his senior players for this opening round.
Squad: Bardyel Wells, Ben Hellewell, Charlie McCurrie, Ethan Fitzgerald, Finley Yates, Harrison Hope, Jack Ratcliffe, Jimmy Shields, Joe Bullock, John Hutchings, Josh Wagstaffe, Kai Morgan, Logan Lagar, Lucas Coan, Nathan Connell, Sean Murray, Tiaki Chan
St. Helens vs Salford Red Devils Prediction
Salford’s team news makes it almost impossible to really get involved in this match from a betting perspective as they will surely be overwhelmed by a motivated St Helens side. Much will depend on whether the Saints go full pelt for the 80 minutes or whether they rack up a substantial lead and then ease off the gas.
It is hard to see any way in which the Red Devils’ line-up can hold the Saints given the huge gulf in quality. There will be no doubting their effort but the hosts should runaway with this one right from the start.
