Spain Preview: La Furia Roja
Spain opened the scoring after just nine minutes in the Netherlands’ second city the other night via Nico Williams before the game was turned on its head via strikes from Cody Gakpo and Tijjani Reijnders. Jorrel Hato’s red card allowed Spain to advantage of ten men.
Luis de la Fuente’s La Roja are the defending champions of the UEFA Nations League having won the competition in the 2022/23 season before they then pretty much romped to UEFA EURO 2024 glory last summer with some impressive victories.
Netherlands Preview: Oranje on the attack
The Netherlands, under the management of Ronald Koeman, performed well to reach the semi-finals of UEFA EURO 2024, albeit their performances were often unconvincing until their defeat to England at the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund.
The Oranje, though, have some impressive and developing players coming through their ranks as they seek to once again evolve. The form of some key players, as well as emergence of I9\others, has put the pressure on Koeman a fair bit.
Spain Team News: Defensive doubt
Lamine Yamal was substituted after a fairly average performance the other day but he is expected to remain in the eleven. His Barcelona teammate Pau Cubarsi, though, was forced off due to an ankle issue and Dean Huijsen is therefore expected to start.
Predicted XI (4-3-3): Unai Simon; Pedro Porro, Le Normand, Dean Huijsen, Cucurella; Pedri, Martin Zubimendi, Fabian Ruiz; Lamine Yamal, Alvaro Morata, Nico Williams

Questionable: Pau Cubarsi (Injured)
Netherlands Team News: Hato suspended
The Netherlands will be forced into a change in their starting eleven this week with Ajax defender Hato now subsequently suspended as a result of his red card the other day. Frenkie de Jong is expected to remain in the eleven for this one.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Verbruggen; Geertruida, Van Hecke, Van Dijk, Baas; Reijnders, De Jong; Frimpong, Kluivert, Gakpo; Depay
Unavailable: Hato (Suspended)

Spain vs Netherlands Prediction
Spain have been extremely impressive in the last couple of years, ever since losing De la Fuente’s first game in charge against Scotland at Hampden Park in March 2023. La Roja are now unbeaten in 17 matches since losing to Colombia in a friendly at the London Stadium in 2024. They face a Dutch side that have an array of attacking and midfield options to choose from and will believe they can still punish an entertaining but open Spain side with both teams scoring appearing a good bet for this one at Mestalla.
