Southampton Preview: Saints need more than a miracle

Former Roma boss Ivan Juric is in charge of a Southampton side that begin this week’s round of fixtures having collected just nine points from this Premier League season. Derby County remain the team with the lowest Premier League points tally, earning 11 in the 2007/08 season.

They went into the March international break on the back of a 2-1 defeat at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers in a game in which Norway international striker Jorgen Strand Larsen notched a brace for Wolves before an eventual Paul Onuachu consolation.

Crystal Palace Preview: Soaring Eagles

Former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner has done a magnificent job in charge of Crystal Palace with the Eagles having returned to being one of the better sides in the Premier League since a slow-ish start to the campaign. They are in mid-table but could still qualify for Europe.

They have two ways of qualifying for UEFA competition. They could squeeze into it in the league but they also moved into the semi-finals of the FA Cup at the weekend as they comfortably defeated Fulham by three goals to nil at Craven Cottage.

Southampton Team News: Defenders returning

In his pre-match press conference ahead of the visit of Crystal Palace this week, Ivan Juric has confirmed that defensive trio Jan Bednarek, Taylor Harwood-Bellis and James Bree are all back and fully fit. They have also had Ryan Fraser and Ross Stewart back in first-team training this week after respective injury layoffs.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Ramsdale; Walker-Peters, Bednarek, Harwood-Bellis; Sugawara, Ugochukwu, Aribo, Manning; Dibling, Onuachu, Sulemana

Unavailable:

Questionable: Larios (Fitness), Smallbone (Injured), Fraser (Fitness), Stewart (Fitness)

Crystal Palace Team News: Richards now out

Oliver Glasner faces an issue in defence as United States international centre-back Chris Richards is now absent for the Eagles due to a minor calf issue. He joins both Chadi Riad and Cheick Doucoure on the sidelines alongside Will Hughes, who remains suspended. Jean-Philippe Mateta returned at the weekend.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Henderson; Clyne, Lacroix, Guehi; Munoz, Lerma, Wharton, Mitchell; Sarr, Eze; Mateta

Unavailable: Riad (Injured), Richards (Injured), Doucoure (Injured), Hughes (Suspended)

Questionable:

Southampton vs Crystal Palace Prediction

Southampton have been horrendous this season, both under Russell Martin and now Ivan Juric. They have conceded 70 goals and won just two of their 29 matches in the league this season, 17 points adrift with just 27 to play for. They face a Crystal Palace side that got to Wembley Stadium at the weekend but that is no one off in terms of their form, with the Eagles collecting the fourth most amount of points in the league since ending their winless start to the season in late-October. Palace are firm favourites here but their counter-attacking style may make it fairly laborious for the neutral.
