Southampton Preview: Saints requiring a miracle
Southampton begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting rock-bottom in the Premier League and ten points adrift of safety, despite a slight improvement in their performance level since the late-December appointment of former Roma manager Igor Tudor.
Saints, despite earning a potentially morale boosting victory over Ipswich Town a couple of weeks ago, now come into this one on the back of a loss to Championship side Burnley in the FA Cup before being swept aside at AFC Bournemouth last weekend.
Brighton Preview: Seagulls beginning to soar
After losing 7-0 to Nottingham Forest a couple of weeks ago, the pressure was growing on Brighton and Hove Albion boss Fabian Hurzeler. However, the Seagulls have responded with back-to-back victories against Chelsea at the AMEX Stadium.
The first of those wins saw Brighton edge past the Blues by two goals to one in the fourth round of the FA Cup before they then hammered Chelsea by three goals to nil last weekend thanks to a goal from Kaoru Mitoma as well as a Yankuba Minteh brace.

Southampton vs Brighton Prediction
Southampton have closed the gap on the lowest points tally in Premier League history of 11, set by Derby County in the 2007/08 campaign. They should overtake that but that appears to be their only source of motivation for the rest of the season with the second-tier once again beckoning. They face a Brighton side that may well have rediscovered some much-needed fluency and effectiveness in the last couple of weeks and they are firm favourites for this one.
