Sorana Cirstea vs Hailey Baptiste prediction

Sorana Cirstea has not featured yet on clay this season, though she did make two quarter-finals in the first part of the season. She must be encouraged considering she missed five months of last season with a foot injury.

Cirstea made the second-round of this event last season, losing to Iga Swiatek in a heavy defeat. Her opponent will be Hailey Baptiste. She made the second-round of the Charleston Open before losing to Emma Navarro in straight sets.

Baptiste has failed to make a breakthrough at events this season though has threatened – at Indian Wells she took the first set before eventually losing to Danielle Collins in the second-round and she then lost in three sets to four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka in the third-round of Miami.

This is incredibly close to call, with neither player in the best of form, but we’re backing Baptiste, the higher-ranked and younger of the two, to make it through to the second-round.
