Former World Championship finalist and five-time semi-finalist Barry Hawkins opens up against Matthew Selt here in a match where an upset is arguably on the cards. Selt is making just his third appearance at the Crucible and has never progressed beyond the first round but a run to the semi-finals of the Gibraltar Open last month is bound to have put a spring in his step and he will be confident of upsetting the odds here. Hawkins, though, lost a high-quality semi-final to Ronnie O’Sullivan at the more recent Tour Championship and can feel relatively good about his own game so backing Selt comes with risk. As an alternative, backing there to be over 16.5 frames could be worth looking at as this match could well go the distance.
