This is surely the pick of the second round matches as these two players have served some memorable matches in the past, although they both reached this stage in contrasting fashion. Ding had to use all of his nous to shake off a stubborn Mark King and it took a final-frame decider to do so, while Ronnie O’Sullivan completely demolished Thepchaiya Un-Nooh 10-1 in a record 108 minutes. In light of that victory, some bookies have now installed O’Sullivan as the favourite for the tournament but first he must overcome a tough opponent in Ding. The Chinese star has had some success over Ronnie in the past – including at the UK Championship in December – but The Rocket comes out on top more often than not and looks in great shape here so we’re tipping him to continue his path to a sixth world title.
