Italian duo Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori are coming off a strong season where they became the first all-Italian doubles team to qualify for the ATP Finals since the event moved to Turin in 2021. That was a big honour for the pairing and while they exited in the group stage with just one victory in three matches, they were playing with the elite doubles players around the world.
The pair are both ranked in the top 11 and they will strongly fancy their chances of getting the win here to help their nation progress to the semi-finals. Simone Bolelli is the experienced part of the duo having made his Davis Cup debut back in 2007 and has racked up 30 doubles matches (17-13). He will be key in leading them here.
They meet Argentine pairing Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni who are a solid doubles duo. They have been playing together consistency for the last three years and have enjoyed good success. During that time they have won eight ATP Tour doubles events.
Gonzalez and Bolelli are former partners who have enjoyed plenty of success together which makes for an interesting storyline. The pair know each other’s game inside out from their spell as partners in 2020 and 2021.
Much could well come down to their partners here and we just marginally favour Vavassori. The Italian has enjoyed a superb year in the doubles and mixed doubles this year and we like this combination. Bolelli and Vavassori reached the final in the Australian and French Open this year, while Vavassori won the mixed with Sara Errani at the US Open.
