World number 119 Sijia Wei will be featuring in the main draw of a Grand Slam for the first time in her young career with the Chinese hopeful having come through qualifying to reach the first round.

The 21-year-old reached numerous finals on the ITF circuit last year, winning three of them, as she moved up through the rankings as the latest in a long line of young Chinese talents who look like real prospects for the future.

The highest ranked WTA player who is yet to win a Grand Slam, Jasmine Paolini reached two major finals last year – at the French Open and Wimbledon – and also won a 1000-rated Singles event in Dubai alongside some prestigious Doubles successes, including Olympic Gold in Paris.

The Italian reached the last 16 at last year’s Australian Open and is fancied to at least match that this time around. Her aggressive game is likely to be too much for her Chinese opponent to handle on her debut, and so Paolini represents good value to overcome a handicap.
