Sevilla Preview: Off-field issues for Sevilla
In the summer, Sevilla appointed Las Palmas boss Garcia Pimienta and then, bizarrely, gave him a new contract early in the campaign. After four successive defeats in La Liga, he has now been sacked and replaced by club legend Joaquin Caparros in the dugout.
The issues at Sevilla aren’t Garcia Pimienta’s fault and he is just a victim of a club that has been mismanaged over the last few seasons with Victor Orta under pressure. They have required three permanent coaches to avoid a relegation battle in each of the last two seasons.
Alaves Preview: Struggling Alaves
Deportivo Alaves begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just outside of the bottom three and the relegation places despite the fact that they come into this weekend on the back of their 15th defeat of the league season last weekend.
Hosting Real Madrid at the Mendizzarozza in the Basque Country last weekend, Alaves went behind early on due to an Eduardo Camavinga goal before Kylian Mbappe was sent off a few minutes later. They couldn’t break Madrid down, though, and punish Mbappe for a grim tackle.
Sevilla Team News: Kike Salas suspended
Sevilla will be without defender Kike Salas for this weekend as he is missing through suspension for this one. Winter transfer window signings Ruben Vargas and Akor Adams are also both unavailable due to injury.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Nyland; Jose Angel Carmona, Bade, Gudelj, Adria Pedrosa; Sow, Agoume; Gatito, Sambi Lokonga, Lukebakio; Isaac Romero
Unavailable: Kike Salas (Suspended), Vargas (Injured), Adams (Injured)
Questionable: Nianzou (Injured)
Alaves Team News: Manu Sanchez suspended
In that game against Madrid, Manu Sanchez was sent off deep into the second-half and he is now missing through suspension, which is the same for Santiago Mourino, too, whilst another defender, Abdel Abqar remains a doubt due to a hamstring injury.
Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Jesus Owono; Tenaglia, Sedlar, Diarra, Fran Garces; Joan Jordan, Antonio Blanco; Carlos Vicente, Carles Alena, Carlos Martin; Kike
Unavailable: Santiago Mourino (Suspended), Manu Sanchez (Suspended)
Questionable: Abqar (Injured)
Sevilla vs Alaves Prediction
Sevilla, as mentioned, have now suffered four successive losses but those defeats have come in tough games against tough opposition. They now face an Alaves side that appear destined for relegation this season under former Celta boss Eduardo Coudet and they also have several key injury absentees for this one, too, so Sevilla, especially with their home advantage, would have to be viewed as firm favourites for the return of Joaquin Caparros.
