Casper Ruud’s hopes of a deep run in Madrid will be tested by big-serving Sebastian Korda.

The Norwegian is yet to make what is an annual statement of intent on the dirt, but showed signs of his clay-court class in his 6-3 6-4 triumph over Arthur Rinderknech. 

The 14th seed will need to find a higher gear against the American, who overcame a scare versus teenage wildcard Federico Cina to ease through in the end by a 6-3 3-6 6-1 scoreline. 

This will be a first clash between the two and it’s easy to plump for Ruud given his pedigree on the surface. However, the Scandinavian has not been at his best in 2025 and the faster conditions may aid Korda’s hopes.
