Sebastian Baez is the last remaining seed in Rio and the fifth-seed will be hoping to demonstrate why as he enters this semi-final clash with compatriot Camilo Ugo.
Baez comes into this one after a relatively comfortable 6-4 6-1 win over Chun-Hsin Tseng in the quarters. Baez was better in all facets of the game and thoroughly deserved the win. The manner of that victory will give him good confidence coming into this one.
After losing in the qualifying and then being handed a lucky loser spot, Camilo Ugo has taken full advantage as he played some great tennis against some decent opponents to reach the semis. He played particularly well in the quarters as he beat the in-form Jaime Faria 7-6 6-4 in a tight match.
He now plays fellow Argentine for a place in the final and he will have to overcome a poor record against Baez. They have met on the Challenger Tour four times dating back to 2016 and Baez has won the last three meetings. They also met in the first round in Buenos Aires last week and Baez won 6-4 6-4.
We cannot see a different outcome here. Baez is playing some strong tennis and he just has the edge over Ugo in all areas so we expect Ugo’s heroic run to come to an end here.
