Sebastian Baez vs Arthur Cazaux Prediction

Winner of two ATP titles in 2024, including his first at 500 level, Sebastian Baez comes into the Australian Open as the 28th seed. This will be his fourth participation in Melbourne, with last year's run to the third round representing his joint-best at a Grand Slam.

As is the case with many of his compatriots, the Argentine is traditionally more of a clay-court specialist with seven of his eight appearances in an ATP final having come on the red dirt. In the lead up to the Australian Open, Baez entered the ASB Classic where he was seeded third, but he lost his opener in straight sets to fellow countryman Facundo Diaz Acosta.

Facing off against Baez is up-and-coming French talent Arthur Cazaux, who made a name for himself with a memorable run to the last 16 at last year’s Australian Open as a wildcard entry. After a year in which he featured in two ATP 1000 events, Cazaux is quickly becoming accustomed to facing the top players and represents a real danger to the 28th seed here.

In the run-up to Melbourne, Cazaux reached the last 16 of the Adelaide International before losing to in-form Felix Auger Aliassime in a deciding set. He displayed a high level in that defeat to the Canadian, and he could be worth backing to upset Baez in what is poised to be competitive first-round match.
