Scott Williams vs Niko Springer Prediction

Scott Williams returns to Ally Pally where he has great memories from last year when he reached the semi-finals. That is unquestionably the best performance of his career so far and the 34-year-old will be excited to return this year.

Despite reaching the semis, Williams has to play in the first round as he is ranked at 37, just outside the top 32. That will not faze him however and he will determined to prove his performances last year were no fluke.

He meets 24-year-old Niko Springer here who is making his debut at the World Championships. He is one of a number of good young German players right now and after featuring in six Winmau Development Tour finals this year, he will be hoping to put up a good fight here.

Springer is something of an unknown quantity at this level but he had been handed one of the toughest matches he could get in this first round. Williams should get control of this one early and claim the win with relative ease.
