Salford Red Devils Team News: Rowley names his strongest squad for home opener
Following the news that the takeover of the club has been formally approved by the RFL, Salford Red Devils have named all their regular senior players for this home clash with Leeds Rhinos. Only three players from last week have been named in the 20-man squad but all their key men are available for this one.
Squad: Ryan Brierley, Nene Macdonald, Tim Lafai, Deon Cross, Jayden Nikorima, Marc Sneyd, Brad Singleton, Chris Hill, Kallum Watkins, Joe Shorrocks, Chris Atkin, Shane Wright, Esan Marsters, Jack Ormondroyd, Justin Sangare, Joe Bullock, Matty Foster, Chris Hankinson, Kai Morgan, Tiaki Chan
Leeds Rhinos Team News: One change for Rhinos with Oledski ruled out
Leeds are forced to make one change from last week’s opening loss to Wakefield Trinity as Mikolaj Oledski is in concussion protocol so 19-year-old Jack Smith replaces him in the squad. They may consider changing things around in the 17 with Ethan Clark-Wood having another week of training under his belt and Jarrod O’Connor building up his fitness after injury.
Squad: Harry Newman, Ash Handley, Ryan Hall, Brodie Croft, Matt Frawley, Andy Ackers, Keenan Palasia, James Bentley, James McDonnell, Cameron Smith, Jarrod O’Connor, Sam Lisone, Morgan Gannon, Cooper Jenkins, Jake Connor, Tom Holroyd, Alfie Edgell, Tom Nicholson-Watton, Riley Lumb, Ethan Clark-Wood, Jack Smith
Salford Red Devils vs Leeds Rhinos Prediction
The drama from last week is now in the past and Salford Red Devils have named all their regular senior players for this home opener against Leeds. There was so much discussion and controversy around their decision to play reserve and junior players but they will look to move on from that and the 82-0 loss suffered at the hands of St Helens.
This becomes their first game of the season in many respects and it will be interesting to see if they can hit the ground running after so many teams struggled for rhythm last week.
Leeds were one of those teams with their attacking play seriously lacking cohesion and spark. Getting 80 minutes under their belts will have served them well however and they will hope that gives them the edge over Salford.
We expect that to be a factor in this one and it has to favour the away side. Salford may feel like it is a ‘them against us’ situation having received so much criticism this week, but it will be hard to fire on all cylinders without any meaningful action.
Leeds have minutes under their belts and they can only improve on last week’s mediocre display against Wakefield. We like the value on them as underdogs in this one.
