Saint-Etienne Preview: Fighting hard

Saint-Etienne sacked manager Olivier Dall’Oglio and replaced him with Eirik Horneland during the winter break and the first few months of this season has been underwhelming but the visitors have shown some fight in the last few weeks as they battle against the drop.

After a victory over arch-rivals Olympique Lyonnais a fortnight ago, the Greens then suffered a 3-1 defeat to Strasbourg at Stade de la Meinau last weekend with Zuriko Davitashvili equalising for Saint-Etienne but Strasbourg racing clear in the second-half.

Monaco Preview: Competitive race

Adi Hutter’s Monaco begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting tucked inside the top four and the UEFA Champions League spots in Ligue 1 with an entertaining style of football that has produced 94 goals in their 31 matches so far this season.

The Monegasque do, though, now come into this one on the back of one victory in their last four matches. That is because of back-to-back draws with the most recent of which being away from home against Saint-Etienne’s relegation rival Le Havre at Stade Oceane last weekend.

Saint-Etienne Team News: A few issues

Saint-Etienne have a few injury issues for this one as Benjamin Bouchouari remains sidelined alongside Augustine Boakye, whilst midfielder Pierre Cornud also remains a doubt.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Larsonneur; Appiah, Bernauer, Nade, Petrot; Moueffek, Ekwah, Tardieu; Cardona, Stassin, Davitashvili

Unavailable: Bouchouari (Injured), Boakye (Injured)

Questionable: Cornud (Injured)

Monaco Team News: Golovin a doubt

Monaco can name an unchanged eleven this weekend with no fresh injury concerns for this one but Russia international attacking midfielder Aleksandr Golovin is a doubt for the visitors.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Kohn; Vanderson, Singo, Kehrer, Caio Henrique; Akliouche, Camara, Zakaria, Ben Seghir; Embolo, Biereth

Unavailable:

Questionable: Golovin (Injured)

Saint-Etienne vs Monaco Prediction

This is a potentially hugely consequential meeting at both ends of the table at Stade Geoffrey-Guichard this weekend. Saint-Etienne have shown some fight, especially at home, but their supporters let them down in that defeat of Lyon a couple of weeks ago. Monaco will seek to take advantage of the ill feeling at the club to inflict further pain on one of the giants of French football but they themselves cannot be trusted and both teams scoring would appear a good bet for this one.

Saint-Etienne vs Monaco Tip: Both teams to score
