AUSTRALIA
- Australia moved to within touching distance of progression to the quarter-finals with a comfortable win over Uruguay in their Pool D clash and will secure their place in the last-eight with a win in their final game against Georgia although their place could already be sealed by the time they kick-off if Fiji fail to beat Wales.
- With the knockout stages on the horizon, the Wallabies were expected to use this game to put close to their strongest team out on the field but that has not been the case with a third different fly-half named in four matches.
- Matt To’omua started at inside centre against Uruguay but will move to number 10 for this game and despite numerous other changes to the side, 19-year-old Jordan Petaia will retain his place after his impressive try-scoring debut.
GEORGIA
- Georgia suffered a heavy loss to Fiji and their bid to finish third in Pool D now looks beyond them unless they can pull off a shock win against Australia but they would have to put in the best performance in their history to achieve that.
- The Georgians will bow out of the tournament after this game and will look to pick a physical side to make things tough for Australia in what is the first ever contest between the two nations.
- If Georgia are to cause the Wallabies problems, they are likely to come from the front row who have performed admirably all tournament and can maintain a high level for 80 minutes with the replacements also capable of doing some damage.
THE PREDICTION
Australia showed some good signs against Uruguay as their much-changed team gave head coach Michael Cheika food for thought ahead of this final pool game. The Wallabies will now look to build some momentum ahead of the quarter-finals and will want progress with a bang. They still have places in their strongest XV up for grabs and will want to put in a good performance which can see them collect a comfortable win.
