THE PREDICTION
Clermont Auvergne beat Biarritz 39-11 last Saturday to make it five straight home matches won in the Top 14 but this will be a huge test of their mettle. Travelling Ulster recently beat Pro14 champions Leinster 10-20 on the road, although a 19-13 defeat at Ospreys last Saturday was a missed opportunity to follow-up strongly. They will start new star signing Duane Vermuelen and his inclusion in any sense would be a big boost to their confidence. Home advantage needs to be respected on the opening round of the Champions Cup with performances up in the air and Clermont’s streak at home suggests taking them to edge this outright is a reasonable option.
