THE PREDICTION
Wales were up 12-9 against South Africa last Saturday before the Springboks eventually turned the screw in the second for a 18-23 defeat. As disappointing as the loss at home can be, there are worse teams to lose in tight circumstances than the reigning world champions and plenty of positives to take forward into the rest of the series. For one, Ellis Jenkins’ return to international duty was exceptional against the side he last played against for Wales three years ago, where he suffered a potentially career-ending knee injury. The flanker showed plenty of qualities that could make him a future captain and he will do so again in Alun Wyn Jones’ absence against Fiji.
The visitors beat Spain in a 13-43 friendly last weekend to get some practice in but with their only competitive test victories from the last two years coming against Georgia this looks a bridge too far. The hosts will be game for as big a result as they can muster to reward home fans and Wales can be backed to cover -13 here.
