THE TEAM NEWS
LEEDS RHINOS
- Leeds Rhinos produced an extremely worrying performance in round 1 as they were blown away by Warrington Wolves and will need to make major improvements here.
- Last season’s beaten Grand Finalists looked off the pace as they were bullied through the middle and are still without a handful of important players, although Nene Macdonald could debut in the centres after being named in the 21-man squad.
21-man squad: Myler, Fusitu’a, Macdonald, Handley, Austin, Sezer, Leeming, Tetevano, Martin, Smith, O’Connor, Lisone, Olpherts, Sangara, Holroyd, McDonnell, Gannon, Walters, Roberts, Donaldson, Ruan
Unavailable: Harry Newman (Injured), James Bentley (Injured), Luke Hooley (Injured), Mikolaj Oledzki (Injured)
Questionable: Nene Macdonald
HULL FC
- Hull FC played some enterprising rugby in their first game under new head coach Tony Smith but have a lot to work on in defence after nearly surrendering a huge lead in their clash with Castleford Tigers.
- The Black and Whites were coasting at 32-6 but 24 unanswered points made it a nervy finish, although they will take a lot from the character they showed to hang on and they could be further boosted by the return of Andre Savelio for this contest.
21-man squad: Hoy, Swift, Sutcliffe, McIntosh, Clifford, Houghton, Satae, Savelio, Lane, Fash, Lovodua, Cator, Evans, Scott, McNamara, Brown, Griffin, Litten, Barron, Taylor, Dwyer
Unavailable: Carlos Tuimavave (Injured), Connor Wynne (Injured), Jamie Shaul (Injured), Jake Trueman (Injured), Mitieli Vulikijapani (Injured), Ligi Sao (Injured)
Questionable: Andre Savelio
THE PREDICTION
Leeds Rhinos produced arguably the most disappointing performance of any team in the opening round of the season as they were blitzed by Warrington Wolves. The Rhinos lacked size through the middle of the park and their small pack could be overwhelmed once again in this clash with Hull FC. In a game in which the focus will be on Tony Smith taking on his nephew Rohan, the elder Smith will hope his side can repeat their attacking performance from last week in which they looked very good for large spells in their win against Castleford Tigers. They have some issues to fix up defensively but they looked significantly the better of the two teams coming into this encounter and having won four of the last five clashes between the two at Headingley, the away side make huge appeal with a +6 start on the handicap.
