WIGAN WARRIORS

  • Wigan Warriors lost out to Leeds Rhinos for a spot in the Grand Final last season but in Matt Peet’s first season in charge, it was a solid campaign for the Warriors who were able to land the Challenge Cup.
  • Wigan have made a few tweaks to their squad for this season but all eyes will be on the dynamic duo of Jai Field and Bevan French who lit up the league at times in 2022.

21-man squad: Field, French, King, Wardle, Marshall, Cust, Smith, Singleton, Powell, Byrne, Isa, Farrell, Smithies, Cooper, Ellis, Havard, Pearce-Paul, Shorrocks, Mago, O’Neill, Miski

Unavailable: Ryan Hampshire (Injured), Iain Thornley (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Hull KR will hope to let their rugby do the talking after receiving a lot of hype in the media in the build-up to the new season. There are high hopes at Craven Park but they face a really tough task to begin the season as they host last year’s Challenge Cup winners Wigan Warriors. The away side will have been frustrated not to make the Grand Final last season but they boast a very strong squad once again in 2023 with plenty of quality talent in the backs in particular and they should be too strong for the Robins in this opening game.
