THE TEAM NEWS
LEEDS RHINOS
- Leeds Rhinos’ injury-hit side put in a valiant performance as they pushed St. Helens all the way in last week’s Challenge Cup tie which became even harder for them just after the break thanks to Zane Tetevano’s red card.
- The Rhinos have a huge list of injured players and despite initially being named in the squad for this clash with Wigan, Tetevano is also out after he was handed a four-match ban but Richard Agar could hand Kyle Eastmond his Leeds debut.
20-man squad: L. Briscoe, T. Briscoe, Broadbent, Donaldson, Dwyer, Eastmond, Edwards, Gannon, Hall, Leeming, Martin, Mellor, O’Connor, Oledzki, Prior, Smith, A. Sutcliffe, L. Sutcliffe, Thompson, Walters
Unavailable: Jack Walker, Rob Lui, Harry Newman, Konrad Hurrell, Ash Handley, Callum McLelland, Tom Holroyd, Richie Myler, Luke Gale, King Vuniyayawa, Zane Tetevano
Questionable: Kyle Eastmond, Liam Sutcliffe, Bodene Thompson
WIGAN WARRIORS
- Wigan Warriors maintained their 100% start to the season as they nilled York City Knights in last week’s Challenge Cup contest which came on the back of a strong display against Wakefield Trinity in their previous Super League outing.
- The Warriors are beginning to click into gear on both sides of the ball following a slow start against Leigh Centurions in their season opener and in a further boost for Adrian Lam, he now has Bevan French at his disposal to bolster Wigan’s backline options.
21-man squad: Bateman, Bibby, Bullock, Clark, Clubb, Farrell, French, Halsall, Hanley, Hardaker, Hastings, Havard, Isa, Leuluai, McDonnell, Partington, Powell, Shorrocks, Singleton, Smith, Smithies
Unavailable: Liam Marshall, Dom Manfredi, Oliver Gildart, Jai Field, Liam Byrne
Questionable: Bevan French
THE PREDICTION
Leeds Rhinos dug deep to push Super League champions St. Helens all the way in their Challenge Cup encounter last week but the severely under-strength Rhinos were ultimately eliminated in the first game of the defence of their title. The 12-men were physical through the middle and caused Saints problems with their defensive efforts which they will have to repeat to take anything from this clash with Wigan Warriors. The away side have won all three games to begin the season and they should be able to record another success here with the margin set to be at least four points.
