THE TEAM NEWS

WESTS TIGERS

  • Wests Tigers carried on where they left off last season as they produced an underwhelming performance in their defeat to Gold Coast Titans last week.
  • The Tigers were really poor with the ball as they failed to take advantage of plenty of possession in the Titans’ 20 but there is just one change to this week’s side and it is an enforced one with Alex Seyfarth coming into the 17 for the injured Fonua Pole.

Starting 13: Laurie, Nofoaluma, Naden, Talau, Staines, Doueihi, Brooks, Utoikamanu, Koroisau, Klemmer, Papali’i, Blore, Ofahengaue – Interchanges: Simpkin, Kepaoa, Seyfarth, Twal – Reserves: To’a, Tupou, Simpkins, Matamua, Tumeth

Unavailable: Ken Maumalo (Injured), John Bateman (Fitness), Founa Pole (Injured)

NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS

  • Newcastle Knights battled hard but ultimately fell short as they were defeated by New Zealand Warriors in their round 1 clash with a lack of quality with the ball costing them.
  • The Warriors defended their line well but the Knights will have to find more here but they will have more firepower in their three-quarters with Queensland’s Dane Gagai set to make his seasonal debut.

Starting 13: Miller, Hunt, Gagai, Best, Young, Ponga, Hastings, D. Saifiti, Brailey, J. Saifiti, Frizell, Fitzgibbon, Mann – Interchanges: Crossland, Johns, Hetherington, Thompson – Reserves: Jones, Gamble, Tuala, Marzhew, Lucas

Unavailable: Mat Croker (Suspended), Simi Sasagi (Injured), Adam Elliott (Injured)

THE PREDICTION

Wests Tigers looked clueless with the ball last week as they failed to make their mammoth amount of territory count in their loss to Gold Coast Titans. The Tigers will need to markedly improve here but could find it tough going again as they host Newcastle Knights. The away side also lacked some quality with the ball last week as they were downed by New Zealand Warriors but with Jackson Hastings likely to have a point to prove against his former employers, he can be the key man alongside Kalyn Ponga to lead the Knights to a victory here.
