THE TEAM NEWS

ST. GEORGE ILLAWARRA DRAGONS

  • St. George Illawarra Dragons got their season off to a solid start as their new-look side got the job done against New Zealand Warriors last week but this will be a much tougher task as they face defending champions Penrith Panthers.
  • The Dragons will need to be at their very best here but have been forced into a change for this encounter with Aaron Woods suffering a hamstring injury last week with Francis Molo bumped to the run-on side while George Burgess is set to make his debut for the club from the pine.

Starting 13: Sloan, Ramsey, Suli, Lomax, Ravalawa, Amone, B. Hunt, F. Molo, McCullough, Lawrie, Bird, Su’A, De Belin – Interchanges: Mbye, Kerr, Gosiewski, Burgess – Reserves: Sims, Mat. Feagai

Unavailable: Billy Burns, Jayden Sullivan, Tyrell Fuimaono, Josh McGuire, Max Feagai, Aaron Woods

PENRITH PANTHERS

  • Penrith Panthers got their Premiership defence off to an excellent start as they produced a dominant display to get the better of Manly Sea Eagles in their season opener with that performance laying down a marker for the campaign.
  • The Panthers were brilliant across the board in last week’s contest but they were particularly impressive through the middle with their forwards eating up the yards, although they have suffered a big blow with prop Moses Leota set to miss at least eight weeks with a shoulder injury.

Starting 13: Edwards, Staines, Tago, Crichton, To’o, Luai, O’Sullivan, Leniu, Koroisau, Fisher-Harris, Kikau, Martin, Yeo – Interchanges: Kenny, Sorensen, Eisenhuth, Salmon – Reserves: Hopgood, Smith

Unavailable: Nathan Cleary, Preston Riki, Moses Leota

THE PREDICTION

Penrith Panthers were brilliant in their opening match of the season as they defeated top four rivals Manly Sea Eagles in comfortable fashion. They sent out a warning to the rest of the competition with the way they dominated that contest and their defensive efforts are likely to make them difficult to beat once again this campaign. St. George Illawarra Dragons will hope to give them a test this week having won their round one game but the Panthers are likely to be too strong and should cover the -9.5 handicap.
