THE TEAM NEWS

PENRITH PANTHERS

  • Penrith Panthers maintained their perfect start to the defence of their Premiership as they were comfortable victors over Canterbury Bulldogs last week and they will now go in search of an unbelievable 20th successive victory at BlueBet Stadium in this clash with Brisbane Broncos.
  • There is still more to come from this Panthers outfit but they do generally perform better on home soil and with head coach Ivan Cleary naming the same 17 for the third straight week, it would not be a surprise if they claimed another big victory here.

Starting 13: Edwards, Staines, Tago, S. Crichton, May, Luai, Cleary, Eisenhuth, Koroisau, Fisher-Harris, Kikau, Martin, Yeo – Interchanges: Kenny, Sorensen, Leniu, Salmon – Reserves: Jennings, C. Smith, Hopgood, L. Smith, Luke, C. Crichton, O’Sullivan

Unavailable: Moses Leota, Brian To’o

BRISBANE BRONCOS

  • Brisbane Broncos were much-improved as they gave Sydney Roosters a huge scare last week but despite leading 10-0 at the break, they were unable to hold on and ultimately fell to a third consecutive loss.
  • They will take plenty out of that performance but they have to back it up here in what is a daunting challenge and their task has been made even harder by boom prop Payne Haas copping a one-match ban.

Starting 13: Niu, Oates, Staggs, Farnworth, Cobbo, Walters, Reynolds, Palasia, Turpin, Jensen, Capewell, Riki, Hetherington – Interchanges: James, Kennedy, Robati, Paix – Reserves: Gamble, Hoeter, Pereira, Mam, Martin, Quai-Ward, Bayliss

Unavailable: Xavier Willison, Brendan Piakura, Albert Kelly, Patrick Carrigan, Thomas Flegler, Payne Haas

THE PREDICTION

Penrith Panthers come into this clash looking for a ninth consecutive victory in the NRL having won their opening five to begin this season. They top the ladder at the early point of this campaign with the premiers having little trouble in their clash with Canterbury Bulldogs last week. They now return to fortress BlueBet Stadium where they have won their last 19 games and that leaves Brisbane Broncos with a hugely difficult task ahead of them here. The Broncos come into this having lost their last three and they are likely to be outclassed across the field in this mismatch with the Panthers able to cover the -18 handicap.
