THE TEAM NEWS
NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS
- After some really encouraging performances to begin the season, New Zealand Warriors have fallen by the wayside of late and they produced a really poor performance week.
- They faced an under-strength Brisbane Broncos outfit but they failed to capitalise on home soil as they succumbed to a fourth loss in their last five games but in their quest to respond here, hooker Wayde Egan makes his return from injury.
Starting 13: Nicoll-Klokstad, Watene-Zelezniak, Berry, Pompey, Montoya, Metcalf, Johnson, Fonua-Blake, Egan, Afoa, Ford, Niukore, Harris – Interchanges: Walker, Curran, Barnett, Sironen – Reserves: Ale, Tuaupiki, Sifakula, Volkman, Leiataua
Unavailable: Valingi Kepu (Injured), Mitchell Barnett (Injured), Brayden Wiliame (Injured), Te Maire Martin (Injured), Jazz Tevaga (Injured), Edward Kosi (Injured)
DOLPHINS
- The Dolphins recorded a brilliant win over St. George Illawarra Dragons last week as they got the job done despite missing a handful of important players.
- Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and Tom Gilbert were on Origin duty and will again miss out here so Wayne Bennett will roll with the same 17 that got the job done against the Dragons as they extended their L-W sequence to eight matches.
Starting 13: Nikorima, Isaako, Aitken, B. Lee, Niu, Milford, Katoa, J. Bromwich, Marshall-King, Ese’ese, K. Bromwich, Lemuelu, Stone – Interchanges: Wallace, Nicholls, Teague, Te Whare – Reserves: Graham, Plath, Faamausili, Donoghue, Gildart
Unavailable: Sean O’Sullivan (Injured), Felise Kaufusi (Suspended), Tom Gilbert (Injured), Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow (Rested)
THE PREDICTION
New Zealand Warriors were really underwhelming last week and will need to put that disappointing effort behind them as they take on the Dolphins. The expansion team have been superb in their first season in the NRL but will be keen to find some greater consistency having failed to win back-to-back matches since March. They will hold no fear on this trip owing to the Warriors’ issues of late and while this is a new challenge for them as they head to New Zealand, the visitors can build on last week’s success with the aid of a +12 start on the handicap.
