THE TEAM NEWS

NEW SOUTH WALES

  • New South Wales only have pride at stake in game 3 after producing another underwhelming effort last time out as they failed to match the intensity of their opponents.
  • The Blues will be desperate to avoid a whitewash and have made sweeping changes for the final encounter, bringing in Bradman Best, Cody Walker, Jake Trbojevic, Reagan Campbell-Gillard, Keoan Koloamatangi, Jacob Saifiti and Clint Gutherson with Jarome Luai and Junior Paulo among those to make way.

Starting 13: Tedesco, To’o, Crichton, Best, Addo-Carr, Walker, Moses, J. Trbojevic, Cook, Campbell-Gillard, Martin, Koloamatangi, Murray – Interchanges: Yeo, J. Saifiti, Robson, Gutherson – Reserves: Drinkwater, Leniu

QUEENSLAND

  • Queensland retained the State of Origin shield with a game to spare as they went 2-0 up in the series thanks to a convincing victory at Suncorp Stadium in game 2.
  • The Maroons comprehensively outplayed their opponents as they ran out 32-6 victors but will be without Reece Walsh through suspension for this final game with AJ Brimson slotting in at fullback while Corey Horsburgh will debut from the bench in place of Tom Flegler.

Starting 13: Brimson, Coates, Holmes, Tabuai-Fidow, Taulagi, Munster, Cherry-Evans, Cotter, Grant, Fa’asuamaleaui, Fifita, Nanai, Carrigan – Interchanges: Hunt, Collins, Fotuaika, Horsburgh – Reserves: Dearden, Hopgood

THE PREDICTION

New South Wales and Queensland will do battle for the final time this year with plenty riding on this contest for both teams, despite it being a dead rubber. The Blues do not want to suffer a humiliating whitewash while the clean sweep being achieved in Sydney would be huge for the Maroons. It is the away side that have caught the eye in this series so far and despite Brad Fittler making seven changes to his side in an effort to stop the rot, the Queenslanders should be too good for them and they can secure the 3-0 series win.
