THE TEAM NEWS
MELBOURNE STORM
- Melbourne Storm were involved in a quality opening game with Parramatta Eels and were able to land the win as Harry Grant’s moment of magic secured a golden point success.
- The Storm were able to overcome some in-game strife with Cameron Munster able to return to the field despite suffering a compound fracture of his finger but he has been replaced by Tyran Wishart for this contest after undergoing surgery.
Starting 13: Meaney, Warbrick, Smith, Tonumaipea, Coates, Wishart, Hughes, Asofa-Solomona, H. Grant, Welch, Loiero, Katoa, King – Interchanges: Garlick, MacDonald, Pene, J. Grant – Reserves: Anderson, Lewis, Cham, Bradley, Pezet
Unavailable: Dean Ieremia (Injured), Ryan Papenhuyzen (Injured), Justin Olam (Injured), Tui Kamikamica (Injured), George Jennings (Injured), Tariq Sims (Injured), Tom Eisenhuth (Injured), Cameron Munster (Injured)
CANTERBURY BULLDOGS
- After a lot of pre-season hype, Canterbury Bulldogs produced a meek performance in round 1 as they failed to live up to their billing.
- Manly Sea Eagles were far too good for them and there are plenty of issues for the Dogs to fix up here ahead of this tough trip, although head coach Cameron Ciraldo has avoided hitting the panic button and will stick with the same 17 as last week.
Starting 13: Perham, Kiraz, Averillo, Alamoti, Addo-Carr, Burton, Flanagan, King, Mahoney, Sutton, Kikau, Faitala-Mariner, Brown – Interchanges: Tanner, Waddell, Pele, Preston – Reserves: Burns, Oloapu, Morrin, Topine, Okunbor
Unavailable: Luke Thompson (Injured), Bailey Biondi-Odi (Injured), Tevita Pangai Jnr. (Injured), Chris Patolo (Injured), Declan Casey (Injured), Josh Reynolds (Injured), Andrew Davey (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
Melbourne Storm showed their quality to claim the win in round 1 as they overcame a lengthy injury list followed by further issues during their game to claim a brilliant win over Parramatta Eels. They scored a game-winning try in golden point and will look to back that up here as they host Canterbury Bulldogs, although they will have to deal with the loss of key man Cameron Munster. The Dogs were poor last week as they were dismantled by Manly Sea Eagles and while there is plenty of room for improvement, it is tough to back against the Storm in Melbourne, despite missing a host of players that would slot into their 17.
