THE TEAM NEWS
BRISBANE BRONCOS
- Brisbane Broncos will hope that they have laid down a marker for the season as they produced a superb performance to defeat reigning premiers Penrith Panthers last week.
- That was an excellent start to the campaign for the Broncs but they need to back that up here and in their quest to do so, they are buoyed by the return of Reece Walsh at fullback with Selwyn Cobbo reverting to the wing.
Starting 13: Walsh, Oates, Staggs, Farnworth, Cobbo, Mam, Reynolds, Jensen, Walters, Haas, Capewell, Riki, Carrigan – Interchanges: Paix, Palasia, Flagler, Taupau – Reserves: Arthars, Piakura, Willison, Madden, Mariner
Unavailable: Kobe Hetherington (Injured)
NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS
- North Queensland Cowboys needed a late field goal from Chad Townsend to secure a narrow victory over Canberra Raiders last week as they almost blew an 18-point lead.
- The Cowboys looked brilliant in the opening exchanges and went 18-0 up just before the break but Townsend’s effort was needed to secure the 19-18 victory and with that win in the bag, head coach Todd Payten has seen no reason to change his 17 for this game.
Starting 13: Drinkwater, Feldt, Holmes, Hiku, Taulagi, Dearden, Townsend, McLean, Robson, Cotter, Hess, Nanai, Taumalolo – Interchanges: Granville, Neame, Taunoa-Brown, Tamou – Reserves: Elliot, Price, Chester, Shibasaki, Finefeuiaki
Unavailable: Luciano Leilua (Stood down), Mitchell Dunn (Injured), Ben Hampton (Injured), Heilum Luki (Injured)
THE PREDICTION
This should be a fascinating Queensland derby between Brisbane Broncos and North Queensland Cowboys. Both recorded wins in round 1 but something will have to give here in what could be an extremely tight contest. The Broncos were brilliant in seeing off Penrith Panthers last week while the Cowboys opened well against Canberra Raiders before showing some character to get the job done. There is little to split this pair based on how they performed last week but slight preference is just for the hosts with the Broncos able to make home advantage count.
