- Penrith Panthers ended the regular season with a strong performance as they won the battle of west Sydney with a comfortable 6-40 success against rivals Parramatta Eels to make it five straight victories.
- The Panthers look in good shape ahead of their tilt at the finals as they attempt to make it to the NRL Grand Final once again and they come into this with almost a fully fit squad for Ivan Cleary to choose from.
SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS

- South Sydney Rabbitohs made it 12 wins from their last 13 outings as they overcame St. George Illawarra Dragons last week, although they did almost blow a 20-point lead in that contest.
- The under-strength Rabbitohs were able to hold on to claim a 20-16 success in what was a solid way to end the regular season with a host of first-team stars rested but they all return here with Blake Taaffe retaining the #1 jersey after filling in for the suspended Latrell Mitchell last week.
THE PREDICTION
This should be an entertaining clash between the teams that finished
second and third on the ladder as Penrith Panthers take on South Sydney
Rabbitohs. Both teams ended the season in a good place with them earning
numerous victories but that will mean little to one of these at the end
of 80 minutes. There is little to split the pair with just two points
separating them on the ladder but it is likely to be a battle of South
Sydney’s attack and Penrith’s defence. Only minor premiers Melbourne
Storm scored more than the Rabbits during the regular season while the
Panthers boasted the best defence so something has to give here.
However, with Latrell Mitchell missing at fullback for Souths, they are
unlikely to be as potent and this should become more of a defensive
affair with no more than 45 points set to be scored with the pair
combining for just 37 in their clash last month.
