THE TEAM NEWS

PARRAMATTA EELS

Starting 13: Gutherson, Sivo, Opacic, Niukore, Ferguson, D. Brown, Moses, Campbell-Gillard, Mahoney, Paulo, Lane, Papali’i, N. Brown – Interchanges: Kaufusi, Smith, Greig, Cartwright – Reserves: Dunster, Rankin, Hipgrave, Matterson

  • Parramatta Eels produced a brilliant response to their first loss of the season in their previous outing as they proved to be too good for Canberra Raiders in an impressive win on the road last week.
  • The Eels made their superior possession count as they ran out 10-35 winners and they will look to build on that here with their dominance through the middle likely to be key again having averaged 1,825 metres per game so far this season.

BRISBANE BRONCOS

Starting 13: Isaako, Coates, Farnworth, Mead, Oates, Croft, Dearden, Lodge, Turpin, Haas, Glenn, Pangai Jnr., Carrigan – Interchanges: Levi, Flegler, Bullemor, Riki – Reserves: Kennedy, Gamble, Asiata, Arthars

Unavailable: Kotoni Staggs (Injured), Dale Copley (Injured), Ben Te’o (Injured)

  • Brisbane Broncos pushed NRL leaders Penrith Panthers all the way last week as they produced one of their better showings of the season but it was still not enough as they succumbed to a late loss.
  • The Broncos really fronted up in defence and placed the Panthers under lots of pressure but they still have lots of improvements to make with the ball with only one side scoring fewer than them so far this campaign.

THE PREDICTION

Parramatta Eels put their shock loss to St. George Illawarra Dragons behind them in brilliant fashion as they ran out big winners over Canberra Raiders last week. The Eels showed their class on both sides of the ball in that success and they will look to build on it as they host Brisbane Broncos. The away side produced a strong showing last week but it was not enough to get the win and with consistency a big issue for the Broncos, their task is to repeat that effort. They will find it tough going on the road against the Eels and if the home side can replicate last week’s level of performance, the hosts should be able to win by 13+ points.
