  • Newcastle Knights avoided a third straight loss to keep their top eight hopes well and truly alive as they edged New Zealand Warriors in dreadful conditions last time out at McDonald Jones Stadium.
  • They will hope a return to home soil for this clash with North Queensland Cowboys can once again prove to be beneficial and with their injury list starting to decrease, the Knights will believe that they are in a good position for a tilt at the finals.

NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS

Starting 13: Holmes, Feldt, Bowen, Tabuai-Fidow, Taulagi, Drinkwater, Dearden, Hess, Robson, McLean, Wright, Dunn, Taumalolo – Interchanges: Granville, Burr, Molo, Luki – Reserves: Hola, Asi, Lemuelu, Jensen

  • North Queensland Cowboys were unable to respond to their heavy loss against Manly Sea Eagles last time out and back-to-back losses has seen them fall out of the top eight with Cronulla Sharks leapfrogging them.
  • The Sharks proved to be too good for the Cowboys in their last contest and despite a late rally from Todd Payten’s side, it was not enough to retain their position on the ladder.

THE PREDICTION

Newcastle Knights secured an important victory as they overcame New Zealand Warriors in a tight affair last time out. With the return of Mitchell Pearce, the Knights will believe that they can make a late push for a spot in the top eight and making it back-to-back wins would significantly boost their chances. They host North Queensland Cowboys who have produced some poor defensive efforts in their last couple of outings and home advantage could once again prove to be pivotal for the hosts with Newcastle set to record another success.
