- After losing three successive matches, Cronulla Sharks were able to produce a solid performance when it mattered most as they swept Wests Tigers aside last week to keep their top eight hopes in their own hands.
- The Sharks posted 50 points in that success and while they still have plenty of improvements to make, they will be confident ahead of this clash with Brisbane Broncos with them knowing that a second win in a row will leave them in a strong positon ahead of the final round of matches.
BRISBANE BRONCOS
Starting 13: Niu, Oates, Cobbo, Farnworth, Coates, Milford, Kelly, Flegler, Turpin, Haas, Glenn, Riki, Hetherington – Interchanges: Levi, Kennedy, Bullemor, Robati – Reserves: Mead, Piakura
Unavailable: Patrick Carrigan (Injured), John Asiata (Injured), Kotoni Staggs (Injured), Tyson Gamble (Injured), Keenan Palasia (Injured), Xavier Willison (Injured)
- Brisbane Broncos avoided a third successive loss thanks to a narrow success against New Zealand Warriors last week and they will feel that they can make a very late push to climb up the ladder.
- Having done enough to avoid the wooden spoon, the Broncos will be eager to finish as high as possible after edging the Warriors last week and they will be believe they can claim another victory here having won seven of the last eight matches against Cronulla Sharks.
THE PREDICTION
Cronulla Sharks come into this contest just outside of the top eight
but they know that their finals fate is in their own hands. They earned a
confidence-boosting success over Wests Tigers last week but will need
to back it up to move back into the eight. They come up against a
Brisbane Broncos side that defeated them earlier in the season and also
secured a win last week thanks to seeing off New Zealand Warriors. The
Broncos have shown some good signs of late and should be competitive
again but the Sharks’ desperation should be enough to see them get the
job done.
