- Brisbane Broncos recorded a shock win over Cronulla Sharks last time out to create some daylight between themselves and Canterbury Bulldogs in the race to avoid the wooden spoon.
- The Broncos earned just their fourth win of the season with that success and head coach Kevin Walters will be desperate for his side to record back-to-back victories for the first time under his tenure.
WESTS TIGERS
Starting 13: Laurie, Nofoaluma, Pauga, Talau, Maumalo, Doueihi, Brooks, Utoikamanu, Liddle, Tamou, Garner, L. Leilua, Mikaele – Interchanges: Ofahengaue, Twal, Simpkins, Mbye – Reserves: Chee-Kam, Seyfarth
Unavailable: Russell Packer (Injured), Asu Kepaoa (Injured), James Roberts (Isolation)
- Wests Tigers will hope the week off has done them some good after yet another horror show last time out, although a second half response did at least give them some hope of ending their poor run.
- Wests found themselves 0-26 down at the break against South Sydney Rabbitohs and despite scoring 22 second half points, the damage had been done with them now losing their last three by an aggregate score of 144-50.
THE PREDICTION
Brisbane Broncos will have their sights firmly set on making it
back-to-back victories for the first time this season as they host
fellow strugglers Wests Tigers at Suncorp. The visitors have lost their
last three in alarming fashion, although they did show some positive
signs in the second half of their last defeat to South Sydney Rabbitohs.
The challenge for Wests will be to produce an 80-minute performance
here but with some serious defensive issues, they look set to fall short
in this one with Brisbane able to claim a win in a high-scoring contest
that produces at least 48 points.
