- Brisbane Broncos were their own worst enemy as they succumbed to defeat against Penrith Panthers last week but they did at least show some promising signs, enough to suggest that they can prevail in this Queensland derby.
- The Broncos kept the Panthers scoreless in the first half but found themselves 18-0 down until late in the game when they threatened to mount a comeback, only to fall six points short to leave them with just one win in their last seven matches.
NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS
Starting 13: Granville, Feldt, Taulagi, Lemuelu, Bradley, Drinkwater, Dearden, Molo, Robson, McLean, Wright, Dunn, Taumalolo – Interchanges:
Gilbert, Luki, Hess, Hampton – Reserves: Burr, Asi
Unavailable: Reuben Cotter (Injured), Valentine Holmes (Injured), Javid Bowen (Injured), Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow (Injured)
- North Queensland Cowboys suffered a sixth straight loss but not before they gave top of the ladder Melbourne Storm an almighty scare in what was a much-improved performance on both sides of the ball.
- Despite scoring just 16 points, the Cowboys asked plenty of questions and were right in the game until the final play of the contest, falling just four points short and while their effort was superb, the defeat ultimately leaves them with a huge task to get their top eight hopes back on track.
THE PREDICTION
Brisbane Broncos and North Queensland Cowboys are likely to have
nothing more than pride at stake as they do battle here in this
Queensland derby. The pair are struggling at the wrong end of the ladder
and they each come into this on the back of some poor showings of late.
However, they both did at least show some character their respective
losses to Penrith Panthers and Melbourne Storm last week. There is
little to split the two if they both perform like that again but
preference is just for the Broncos having won seven of their last nine
matches against the Cowboys at Suncorp.
