THE TEAM NEWS

BRISBANE BRONCOS

Starting 13: Isaako, Coates, Arthars, Farnworth, Oates, Milford, Gamble, Lodge, Turpin, Haas, Riki, Pangai Jnr., Carrigan – Interchanges: Levi, Flegler, Bullemor, Kennedy – Reserves: Niu, Asiata, Mead, Croft

Unavailable: Kotoni Staggs (Injured), Dale Copley (Injured), Ben Te’o (Injured), Alex Glenn (Injured)

  • Brisbane Broncos produced another shambolic performance as they shipped 46 points against Parramatta Eels last week which was a fourth successive loss for Kevin Walters’ 1-7 side.
  • The defensive commitment shown in their previous outing against Penrith Panthers was nowhere to be seen while they also struggled with the ball so Walters has opted to axe the halves pairing of Tom Dearden and Brodie Croft in favour of Tyson Gamble and Anthony Milford.

GOLD COAST TITANS

Starting 13: Brimson, Don, Kelly, Sami, Thompson, Taylor, Fogarty, Wallace, Rein, Fotuaika, Proctor, Fifita, Peachey – Interchanges: Clark, Jolliffe, Ese’ese, McIntyre – Reserves: Fermor, Boyd, Whitbread, Farmer

Unavailable: Tino Fa’asuamaleaui (Suspended), Sam Lisone (Injured), Patrick Herbert (Injured)

  • Gold Coast Titans produced some brilliant attacking play in their clash with South Sydney Rabbitohs last week but despite notching 30 points, the Titans fell short defensively as they conceded 40 in what was their second straight loss.
  • David Fifita continued his superb scoring record as he bagged a first-half hat-trick while the Titans also scored a length of the field try which will be a contender for try of the season but Justin Holbrook will be desperate for his side to show more defensively this week.

THE PREDICTION

Brisbane Broncos will have a new-look halves pairing for this clash with Queensland rivals Gold Coast Titans but even if they click, it only helps one part of their game with last week’s defensive showing leaving a lot to be desired. They were fortunate not to concede more than the 46 they allowed against Parramatta Eels and with Gold Coast posting 30 last week, the hosts could have a big task on their hands here. The Titans have also struggled defensively having shipped 76 points in their last two games but their ability with the ball should be too much for the Broncos to handle here in what would be a fourth straight victory over their rivals.
