THE TEAM NEWS
BRISBANE BRONCOS
Starting 13: Niu, Oates, Farnworth, Boyd, Coates, Milford, Croft, Lodge, Luke, Haas, Glenn, Pangai Jnr., Ofahengaue – Interchanges: Isaako, Hopoate, Kennedy, Te’o – Reserves: Dearden, Bullemor
Unavailable: Jack Bird (Injured), Jordan Kahu (Injured), Sean O’Sullivan (Injured), Keenan Palasia (Injured), David Fifita (Injured), Jake Turpin (Injured), Kotoni Staggs (Injured), Cory Paix (Injured), Patrick Carrigan (Suspended), Tom Flegler (Suspended)
- Brisbane Broncos put in another poor performance as their brittle defence and lacklustre attack combined to hand them their fourth straight loss and they simply must win this Queensland derby with Gold Coast Titans.
- For the fourth game in succession following the resumption of the NRL, the Broncos failed to score a single second half point and that will be a huge concern for head coach Anthony Seibold as the pressure mounts on his position.
- His misfiring halves Anthony Milford and Brodie Croft have once again avoided the axe this week but Seibold has rolled the dice with Tesi Niu set to make his first NRL start at fullback while Tom Dearden is expected to be elevated to the bench before kick-off while the Broncos will be without suspended pair Patrick Carrigan and Tom Flegler.
GOLD COAST TITANS
Starting 13: Thompson, Don, Kelly, Copley, Sami, Taylor, Fogarty, Fotuaika, Rein, Lisone, Proctor, Hipgrave, Arrow – Interchanges: T. Boyd, Peachey, Jolliffe, Wallace – Reserves: Cartwright, Clark
Unavailable: Ryan James (Injured), AJ Brimson (Injured), Young Tonumaipea (Injured)
- Gold Coast Titans were disappointing once again and were almost kept tryless again St. George Illawarra Dragons but a late Tanah Boyd consolation try did little to hide the miserable showing.
- The Titans went into the game with high hopes of claiming the two competition points but did not make a single line break in the entire game and as has been the case all season, the high number of errors and missed tackles did not allow them to be competitive.
- Young Tonumaipea will be missing after picking up a knee injury last week but Dale Copley returns while Justin Holbrook has also handed Mitch Rein and Jarrod Wallace a shot at redemption as they make their return to the side with Erin Clark and Bryce Cartwright dropping out.
THE PREDICTION
Brisbane Broncos were unable to break their losing streak last week and it now stands at four matches ahead of this Queensland derby with Gold Coast Titans. This could be the final chance for several of their players to prove their worth with the pressure mounting on head coach Anthony Seibold. The Titans were just as bad as the Broncos last week with neither team showing much on either side of the ball but Brisbane have a strong record against Gold Coast having won nine of the last 11 meetings and they should be able to get back to winning ways in this one.
